The Montebello Stars Baseball Organization started in 1970 by founder Armando Perez. The first team consisted of a team of 17 - 18 year old ballplayers, which later grew to another team of 15 - 16 year olds, when in its prime, reached to a maximum of 10 travel baseball teams ranging in ages 8 - 18 years of age. Fund raising activites became a source of the teams survival. Dances, Day at the Horse Races, swap meets, pancake and menudo breakfasts', trips, raffles, etc. were all used to raise funds for the respective teams. The theme for the Montebello Stars was and still is "education through baseball." The city of Montebello presented a Proclamation in the 1980's honoring the accomplishments of the organization for over 25 National Championships, and numerous tournaments that the Montebello Stars organization hosted, qualified, and participated, representing amateur baseball, and giving so many opportunities to young people and bringing praise to the City.
The last year that a Montebello Stars team had competed in youth baseball was in 2000. However, just recently in the summer of 2008 a team of high school aged players wore the familiar red, white, and blue Stars uniform. The Stars players won another title by winning the league championship game at California High School.
A 14 - 16 year old team will be competing in 2009 travel ball league this coming summer. Possibly, a 17 - 18 year old team will also wear the Stars uniform this coming summer.
Any interested ball player is to contact Mike and or Mando Perez.
